I bought the mug because it seemed to belong to a calmer person. That is embarrassing, but also probably why many objects get bought.
Years later, I do not use it every day. I keep it because it remembers an imagined self, which is still a kind of memory.
“Sometimes an object keeps the version of you that did not happen.”
