There are objects that look new and objects that look like they have been waiting for you. The second kind is harder to design. It has less to do with decoration and more to do with whether the object can imagine a life beyond the shelf.

I keep noticing this while building Ecoand. The bottle cannot just look premium in a product photo. It has to make sense beside a sponge, a towel, a half-empty cup, a receipt, a hand that is rushing to wash something before dinner.

The best things do not demand a stage. They survive the ordinary room. They get used. They disappear into routine, then become part of the way someone remembers that routine later.

“The test is not whether it looks impressive alone. The test is whether it belongs when life gets messy.”

Footnote 01: small photographs, captions, handwritten notes, receipt scans, ephemera, image galleries, and audio notes belong beside the writing when they help the memory.
